Salt Mine
by Mary Z. McGrath, Ph.D.
Down an elevator in darkness
Accompanied by nervous giggles
We reached a world below ground that I could never have imagined in my wildest fantasies
Miners and artisans, poets and priests of the subterranean created
the expression of their spirituality through statuary
their national pride by figures for future visitors to see
music
lights
crystal salt chandeliers
corridors with tunnels going on and on and on down and across and down and finally up again on as elevator to rain spotted windows and sunshine
The signature of creativity in the salt mine made a mark on me
