Hints
For the last few weeks fall has hinted that it is on the way. Sumac leaves gradually changing color, birds flocking and heading south, temperatures reaching into colder realms and then bouncing back to warmer degrees all add up to seasonal change.
One may notice the hints or be oblivious to the messages nature sends. Since reading hints is also part of communication, individuals may notice variations in others or be oblivious to them as well.
What would one look for to enhance communication with others? Following are four suggestions:
- Look directly at the person so as to discern their expression and any significant
body language;
- Listen carefully for the content of the message someone is giving;
- Keep attuned to personal insights in order to catch the unspoken message, and
- Be respectfully direct so that others hear your message.
Hints are for nature and guessing games. Real communication requires direct, specific and intentional talk.
