A MESSAGE FROM MARY MCGRATH

SUMMER INTERRUPTIONS

Look back on your summer. Did you have company? Did you see old friends? Did you take a vacation out of town? Did you have time to just “chill out” in the hammock?  Did you catch up on projects left for summer? Did you attend a workshop that expanded your perceptions?

Yes, summer is done. You are “back in the saddle again” whether it be at school, at home in a new routine with your children in school or on your own as a caregiver angling events differently in a new season. Change is upon us.

We are now in a routine that summer in effect interrupted. Was it a beneficial interruption or do you feel that you have had a setback on all you want to get done?

Review your summer. Think about the visits from friends and family as opportunities you took to catch up and renew relationships. Think of your vacation time as a gift of refreshment. Think of the moments when you put it on pause as time you took for your renewal. Think of the time you spent scrapbooking,  doing home repair or shopping for holiday gifts to ease December as self supportive activity. Think back to the workshop you attended and realize what new information you gained from attending.

Yes, summer was an interruption. But it can certainly be seen as a gift depending on how you frame it. It’s a matter of how the mind sees each event that has occurred. May you go forward this fall bearing good memories and a sense of accomplishment from renewing relationships,  summer rest and  restorative activity.
